Maya vs. Blender: My Personal Experience

As someone who has modeled, animated, lit, rendered, and everything in between using both Maya and Blender, I can say with confidence that both have their unique and charming features, but share similar results at the end of the day.

In recent years, animation software as a whole has taken huge strides and been constantly improving. When it comes to these two, Blender was and always will be my first love. When I first got into animation at the age of twelve, I started using Blender because one, it was free and two, it was the same software I saw the people that I looked up to using. It has really been a rock for me ever since. I haven’t even updated to the latest version of blender in like a year (what is it at now, 4.0?) because my current version still holds strong. Well, that and my rigs might break if I import them to the newest version. But the quality has been so high and I continue to find new ways to express my creative mind day after day. But I definitely see Maya’s potential. Having only dabbled in it for a little over a year now, I can say with confidence that, while it isn’t what I’m used to, it is definitely something I can get used to. Especially when it comes to rigging. I never rigged much in Blender, but Maya makes it easy. And I’m only touching the surface of what there is to know.
